Today, it is best known for its temples, many of which date back to the times of the Chand rulers. As per Indian mythology, Lord Vishnu appeared here in the form of a tortoise, called "Kurmavatar".

Place we cover: Baleshwar Temple
Built by the rulers of the Chand dynasty, Baleshwar Temple is a marvelous symbol of stone carving. It is believed to have been built in 13th century AD (1390 AD) by Garud Gyan Chand.

Place we cover: Maa Barahi Temple
Maa Barahi Devi Temple Devidhura, Champawat is famous for its Barahi temples. A very unusual fair, which attracts people from Kumaon, Nepal, and even other places, is held every year at the temple of Barahi Devi on Raksha Bandhan day.

2nd Day | First Half
Place we cover: Nagnath Temple
The Nagnath Temple was built by Guru Gorakhnath, a noted sage of the hills. Despite the destruction caused by the Rohilla and Gorkha tribes, the temple has been restored and sports a very intricately carved wooden doorway of the 18th century Kumaoni style architecture.

Place we cover: Vivekananda Ashram Shyamla Tal
Beginning of Vivekananda Ashrama at Shyamlatal is the fruition of intense desire of Shrimat Swami Virajanandaji Maharaj to practice life of intense meditation.Swami Virajananda joined Baranagar Monastery in1891 and got mantra diskha from Holy mother in 1893 .He was ordained into sannyasa by Swami Vivekananda in 1897. He was one of the first four disciples of Swami Vivekananda.
